History

Citrus Sculptures

The Citrus Sculptures are Griffith’s flagship event and are nationally unique. The larger than life three dimensional creations were first installed in 1995 and are based on the famous sculptures in Menton, France. The sculptural display is incredibly popular with 65 sculptures lining Banna Avenue. The sculptures are an enormous project, requiring more than 100,000 oranges and rubber bands, a dedicated project manager and an army of over 800 volunteers. It is a fabulous community event with schools; local businesses; banks; cultural, service and church groups; and multinational companies working side by side to create these magnificent works of art. Griffith Spring Fest is celebrated during the two-week Citrus Sculpture display. In 2023 we will be celebrating 26 years for the Citrus Sculptures. We thank Real Juice Company for being the 2023 Citrus Sculpture sponsor.

Griffith Garden Festival

The Festival of Gardens was established in 1991 and attracts a broad range of garden enthusiasts from new homeowners with young gardens through to dedicated gardeners who relish the opportunity to enjoy other gardens. The three-day annual Festival has grown to become a major event in Griffith, being a mecca for garden lovers locally and from far afield. Every year eight to ten private gardens open to the public, ranging from small cottage gardens within the city to stunning large rural acreage gardens. On average 20 to 30 coach groups are drawn to Griffith for the Festival, with 6,000 – 8,000 garden entries recorded every year. It is such a boost for the local economy during this period with all the day trippers and night stays. In 2023 we will be celebrating 31 years for the Griffith Garden Festival.
